If the creation of this thread contradicts any of this board's rules, then I apologize now, and the following may be closed without further ado.
1. If I were interested in learning a new language, specifically C++, what are some good books (not websites) that would help me get started? I know a bit of VB programming, but looking at the C++ language, I don't think that helps a bit, so I am a beginner.
2. By learning C++, I want to give back to the community by providing successful and substantial hacks to online games that I have or am currently played/playing now. (GunZ, Maple Story, etc.) By the end of my learning "session", will the methods on how to create such hacks be clear, or will the variety of variables inhibit the coding process? This is the part I am most worried about, because it's relatively easy to create a new program from scratch, given that all the variables are created and so it is in your favor, but if you were to try and hack a pre-existing program, say GunZ, wouldn't there be unknown variables that would prevent one from succeeding in such a task?
I just went out to buy C++ For Dummies, hoping that it would help, and after taking a glance inside, I've decided that it would be beneficial. I will eventually get to the links you have posted after I grasp the very basics of C++ programming.
After learning C++, is it imperative I learn Win32 API, or can I just go straight to reverse code engineering?
