    Default Laptop Overheating...

I have a Gateway M-1631u laptop. Ive had it for about 2 years now. Couple months ago I was having problems with it overheating due to my fan being clogged up with dust. I cleaned it out and it fixed my problem. But now my laptop is doing the same thing agean, after a while that its on it turns off. I cleaned the fan and I thought the problem was fixed. I turned it on and after a while It turned off agean. Im just wondering, can tehre be anything else that can be making my laptop turn off? Another reason my laptops overheating? (dont tell me its a virus cause Im 100% sure its not)

For some reason Acer is famous for their products overheating (before you say OH HEY ITS NOT AN ACER, Yeah. It is.) Anyhow, that is a problem all acer products seem to have (especially laptops).

I suggest using it on a flat wooden desk with proper ventilation, and invest in a laptop cooler.

if you leave you computer running all the time have had it running alot, it can make the fan motor burn out. which will make it run slower.

It's fairly hard to replace the fan/heatsink in a laptop, I just did it recently and it's far more difficult than I would have initially thought. Now I'd recommend using some sort of compressed air and use that to externally clear out any lint or blockage that's inside of the fan.

Seeing as you said you already cleaned the fan.......I would say try replacing it. I got an old compaq laptop that I've had since I was 10 (19 now). It still runs as good as new, well except for the keys I broke off xD. If you don't want to take the chance of breaking something when you go to replace the fan, then I would say that you should just buy a cooler, I've seen a few people burn out the USB ports by the USB powered ones though, be warned.

Proper ventilation, clean the dust out, etc. etc. I think the cooler things look retarded but if you're using it at home all the time it could be worthwhile.

This is the exact same thing that's been happening to me and I have a Samsung, I found out why it was doing it.
It was because I was using my sister's laptop charger and somehow it was too strong for mine so I went back to using my own.
It could also be happening because of the surface you put your laptop on.

Dirt builds up in the fan causing less airflow. Try blowing canned air into the vents.

My laptop has overheat issues like yours too. I'm planning on getting a new one soon, as the batteries run out in 5 minutes as well.
What I'm doing at the moment to prevent it from turning off is elevating the laptop with 4 lego blocks in each corner of the laptop .
Of course, you can use something else... I also used to place a bag of ice under laptop while elevated by the 4 legos, but it seems it is not needed.

All you need is a laptop cooler and a new battery, the battery is probably around $30-$60, way cheaper than buying a new laptop.

keeping on a flat surface (wooden desktop) should stop the overheating. Mine also used to, that's how i fixed it.
