Hey fellas, I'm looking for a nice destination in the US for around a week at the end of August. I'm highly considering either San Francisco or New York but am open to other destinations if they have similar appeal.

Flights to SF are around $350 and New York for about $100 more, so they're both fairly cheap. I probably wouldn't want to spend more then $500 on a flight from Vancouver to the destination.

I figure most of you are American, so I might as well ask for suggestions before I buy tickets.
(Also if anyone has a place for me and a +1 to sleep for a night or two for cheap, I would be eternally grateful.)

Unfortunately Hawaii is too expensive. Something on the mainland is far more ideal.

I don't really recommend SF or NY unless you love urban cities, cost of living and accommodation is generally expensive if you're staying there for more than a week.
Vegas is too hot for this time of year, not that great unless you like gambling and clubbing.

The first two are some areas I'd recommend.
Colorado is great also during the winter.

*If you're looking for cheap rooms, look for hostels or air b&b.

San Diego if you can afford it. Great weather this time around. But Oregon is nice too. Utah is a little bit hotter this year. Maine or Rhode Island if you want a bit of cooler weather.

I wouldnt go to SF or NYC if youre on a budget.

    New Orleans?
    Seattle?
    Portland?
Washington DC if you love museums?

Depends on what your interests are.

NYC is pretty expensive but theres a lot to do. However, since I live here I haven't done any of it of course. Try to find cheap spots to eat downtown because it is a lot more than the rest of the city just because tourists.

I’d go to NY just to eat the pizza, nothing beats a NY slice.
